Health Professionals

Health professionals

People are often referred to their local RDA group by a health professional. Our riding programmes are designed to complement conventional therapies and special needs education. All groups affiliated to the NZRDA have to undergo an annual Operational Certificate review to ensure all programmes are to the highest health and safety standard. We provide ongoing training to all involved, including coaches, volunteers and all horses are specially selected and trained to ensure they are fit and suitable for purpose.

Our personnel and others involved such as teachers and health professionals, work collaboratively to ensure each participant has an individual programme, which takes into account their abilities, needs and personal goals.

In all cases, the therapeutic use of the horse involves a team approach of the coach and volunteers, health and education professionals, the rider and their support people, and the horse.
